A fresh meaning to Christmas/New Year

On December 20th, 2007 my company had two crews (4 guys) working at a new metal building across the road from a chemical plant (over 1000 feet away).
They were installing wiring and lighting fixtures in the building when the the chemical plant exploded.

Among all the chaos involved with that explosion (4 died, 12 injured) a 30 foot pipe flew through power-lines and impacted the building our crews were working in...

This is the story of that pipe...

In this first picture, the building in the background is NOT the one that exploded. It is the one our crews were working in. Actually, the white van in the foreground is one of our vans.
(The black truck next to our van played a key role in the "story of the pipe")

This view is another look toward the buiding our crews were in. You can see the wrinkled corrugated steel siding . The building which exploded is still over 1000 feet away from here.

This black truck was clipped by flying debris from the blast. It is believed that the debris was a 30 foot piece of pipe. The tip of the pipe must have hit this truck and then started spinning like a mower blade.

After that pipe left the black truck it flew into the side of the building here. The mangled pipe is laying on the ground. We are very thankful that no one in this building was hurt.
There was more damage and more pictures, but you get enough to appreciate what our guys went through.

Today, the local news said that the govt. agency, Chemical Safety Board (CSB) announced the cause was an overheated reactor tank where chemicals are mixed. The estimated explosion was equal to 2,000 pounds of TNT. The investigators found debris weighing over 100 pounds a quarter of a mile away from the blast site.
Caualties = 4 dead, and 12 hospitalized.

Sooo how did you 2007 end? For us, we ended we much to be grateful for and another witness to God's good grace.

Happy New Year!
